Enjoy browsing a variety of stalls in the friendly atmosphere at one of the oldest open-air markets in the North East.

The market is held in a traditional square with the eighteenth century old Town Hall at its heart.

It takes place just outside of The Word, with lots to see and do inside, including a fantastic shop packed full of lovely handcrafted items from the best crafts people from around the region.

Opening days and times

Markets are held every Friday and Saturday. The Monday market is closed until further notice. 

Fridays, 9am to 3pm - Friday & Flea market

Rummage through the curios, books and bric-a-brac at the flea market and second-hand stalls in the morning or visit the stalls selling fantastic brand-new items. 

Stalls selling brand-new items include: 

  • Al the Plant Man - Full selection of plants and shrubs
  • Budget Priced Merch - Merchandise from individual music artists to bands, TV & film
  • Collectable DVDs
  • Davy Milligan - Toys, artificial flowers, job lots & fancy goods
  • King's Records - Vinyls, CDs & DVDs
  • Liberty Catering - Refreshments
  • Signature Farm Meats - One of the leading butchers in the North East specialising in fresh meat produce
  • Simply Allsorts - Household goods, tools, pictures and memorials
  • 'Trev' The Chocolate Man - Bargain chocolate / sweets and dog treats

These stalls operate alongside flea market & second-hand stalls. 

Saturdays, 9am to 3pm - Traditional market
