South Shields Market is the focal point for the town centre and attracts thousands of visitors and bargain hunters from near and far. Each week it is alive with the buzz of bargain hunters and the banter of stallholders.
The long-established Market offers all the best to be found in an open-air traditional marketplace. It is one of the oldest and most popular markets in the Northeast. The market is held in a traditional square with the Eighteenth century old town hall at its heart. The historic church of St Hilda stands on the South side of the marketplace, there has been a church on the site since 647 A.D.
