Marsden Rock and Bay
Stands
in the heart of one of the most attractive stretches
of the North East coast. One of the most magnificent
rock formations in Britain, Marsden Rock is renowned
for it's sea bird colonies, with thousands of pairs
of Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Gulls and Cormorants.
The face of the rock was changed forever when the world
famous arch collapsed in 1996.
Marsden Bay is also home to Marsden Grotto with it's bar and upstairs seafood restaurant,
and amazing sea views.
The ghost of John the Jibber is said to haunt the
area and if you are quiet you may hear his moans and
groans. He died a slow death suspended in a bucket half
way down the cliff face, after betraying fellow smugglers
to the Customs men.
