Catherine Cookson Connection
Cookson imgSouth Tyneside is recognised to millions around the world through the phenomenal work of Dame Catherine Cookson, one of the 20th century's most well-known and successful writers.

Cookson Country, the setting for many of her books has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of devotees every year. Trained guides to accompany incoming, pre-booked coach parties provide fascinating commentary on the places linked to her life and writings.

The Tales of South Tyneside Gallery in South Shields Museum, with it's reconstruction of William Black Street and displays of the author's awards and personal effects, highlights the important influence Dame Catherine Cookson has had on the area.
