and Art Gallery
South
Shields Museum and Art Gallery has a wealth of displays
and resources for groups of all ages and interests.
Resources and facilities are provided for playgroups,
nurseries, schools, colleges, further education and
lifelong learning establishments.
As
well as the Museum's fascinating permanent galleries
the Museum is host to popular temporary collections.
These galleries can help with a wide range of primary
and secondary curriculum topics including: the Victorians,
Dark, Portraits and many more. Numeracy, literacy and
citizenship can all be taught using the Museum and
it is also an invaluable resource for study of Leisure
and Tourism topics.
The Museum's extensive programme of art, natural and
social history and science exhibitions, allows even
more scope for teachers and group leaders.
There are also opportunities for groups to become involved
in the work of the Museum, working on special projects
and displaying their own work in the Old Foyer Gallery.
All
galleries and exhibitions are interactive and hands-on
and designed to be suitable for a wide range of ages
and abilities. Special workshops led by the Museum Education
Staff can be arranged and there are handling collections
and loan boxes available for use both on-site and back
in the classroom.
