Shopping

Many non-essential shops are now open throughout South Tyneside. South Tyneside Council is supporting shoppers with a range of measures to make sure people can shop safely - for more information see Shop Safe

The Barbour Factory Outlet is open every day, offering great discounts on their popular branded outdoor products.

You can now also visit the market in South Shields every Saturday, along with the flea market on a Friday. A number of safety measures, including a one way system, hand sanitisers and stewards are in place. See South Shields Market for more information. The Monday market is closed until further notice.

Cafes, pubs and restaurants

Many of our popular venues have been operating a take away or click and collect service over the past few weeks. From 4 July venues have started to re-open for dine-in customers.

We recommend you check opening times and if pre-booking is required in advance if there is a specific venue you are intending to visit.

Toilets

All the Council managed public toilets have re-opened. The toilets are open 10am to 5pm everyday (except the Market Place and Queen St toilets in South Shields Town Centre which are closed on a Sunday, and Haven Point & other leisure centre toilets which are just open for centre users). They are all being monitored and cleaned regularly. For more information see Public Toilets.

Car parks

Council car parks are now open too. Please use the cashless PayByPhone method of payment wherever possible to pay for parking. More details can be found at South Tyneside Council Car Parks.

Places to stay

Why not make a trip of it? You deserve the break!

Accommodation venues will be re-opening from 4 July and we have a great choice of places to stay. See our accommodation pages for some ideas!

'We're Good to Go' Scheme

Look out for businesses who have signed up to the 'We're Good to Go' Scheme.

This is the official UK mark to signal that a tourism and hospitality business has worked hard to follow Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines and has a process in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.

Find out more about this scheme and which businesses in South Tyneside have already received this: We're Good to Go Scheme
