Harton Quays Park

South Tyneside boasts a variety of amphitheatres and beautiful parks for adults and families of all ages to enjoy.  Harton Quays park is the newest addition to our fabulous public parks in South Tyneside.

Harton Quays Park opened in September 2013 and was designed by renowned landscape architects Grant Associates. The park stretches along the River Tyne from South Shields Ferry landing to the Customs House theatre, making an attractive gateway into South Shields town centre.

The park features curved embankments, immaculate lawns and colourful plants, as well as a promenade, sheltered gardens and a dramatic pine grove viewing point which is shaped like the bow of a ship. There is also a curved ribbon wall which was created using 144 precast concrete panels, a stunning water feature, and a seating area from which you can overlook the riverside and the trusty Shields Ferry.

An amphitheatre within the park offers a lovely setting for al fresco drama and music in the summer.

Also during the summer months, on the first Sunday of the month 10.30am - 3pm, the park is home to a popular craft markets. A great place to find unique crafts, handmade gifts, local art and tasty treats from talented regional craftspeople.

There are a number of restaurants, cafes and family pubs available in South Shields town centre or even pop into The Customs House and visit their famous Green Room restaurant if you fancy some refreshment while visiting the park.
