Dining out

ZeerasFrom fine dining to independent bistros and high-street favourites to traditional pub lunches, high tea, seafood delicacies, award winning fish and chips and ice-cream treats - you'll find them all in South Tyneside.

Town centre wining and dining, beach side bistros, cosy village pubs and riverside retreats are just some of the settings you can choose from to enjoy your meal.

The famous Ocean Road

Ocean Road in South Shields is famous for its many Indian and Asian restaurants, offering a great choice of dishes and excellent prices.

This mile long stretch of road between South Shields' Town Centre and Seafront is also home to Colmans Fish and Chip Restaurant, who have won numerous awards for their food and draw visitors from far afield. Tucking into fish and chips has to be the ultimate seaside experience - and Colmans will not disappoint. Their new restaurant, Colmans Seafood Temple, overlooking the beach is also hugely popular.

There's a great choice of places to eat throughout the area

Take a bite out of some truly scrumptious food to set those mouth buds watering or venture into King Street to sample some spectacular food at Bravi or some traditional pub lunches at any pub or cafe on the high street, our villages or towns.

And a visit to the seaside must involve ice cream. Look out for Toney Minchella and Minchella & Co's ice cream parlours and kiosks around the area.

Foodie events

Don't miss the hugely popular South Tyneside Restaurant Week every Autumn, when many of our restaurants and cafes introduce special two course dishes for you to sample. In May the Proper Food and Drink Festival takes place at Bents Park in South Shields, while throughout the year there's lots more food orientated events to enjoy.
