4Shore Outdoor Skate Park
Located next to Sandhaven Beach, South Shields, this is specifically designed for the skaters, scooters and bikers out there with a mixture of flowing ramps, built in contours, transitions and bowls.

The skate park has a football pitch and basketball court perfect for those who want to have fun in the sun and get in shape at the same time. There is seating located all along the park for those who simply want to watch family or friends. Next to the park sits the funfair, a number of family-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes.

Cricket

Cricket has been played in South Shields since 1868 and the Borough of South Tyneside now has nine cricket clubs, showing the sport has continued to grow in popularity with players and spectators. Visitors are welcome to watch matches at most clubs, simply contact individual clubs for details.

Tennis

Tennis is a well loved sport in South Tyneside and has brilliant indoor and outdoor facilities.

During the summer months a number of the Borough's parks open their outdoor courts for public use free of charge, including Readhead Park and West Park in South Shields, Carr Ellison Park in Hebburn and Cornthwaite Park in Whitburn.

Horse Riding

Bowling

South Shields Bowling Club has first class greens for both indoor and outdoor bowling. There are two picturesque outdoor greens with a total of twelve rinks with a further eight indoor rinks, boasting one of the best playing surfaces in the country. After your match, why not relax with a drink from the bar.

There are a number of other bowling greens located in parks around the borough, including Carr Ellison Park, Cornthwaite Park, Coulthard Park, Monkton Dene, North Marine Park, Readhead Park, West Parks in South Shields and Jarrow as well as a number of community centres including Harton Welfare Club.

Great North Run

The Great North Run has long been established as the world's biggest half marathon.

Elite athletes and fun runners alike make their way over the iconic Tyne Bridge in Newcastle, to the beautiful seaside finish line in South Shields each September.

Thousands of spectators line the streets along the route to cheer the runners on to the coastal finish. The atmosphere is unbelivable so whether you're a competitor or a spectator, we'd love to see you at the finish line!
