Take a trip down memory lane
Uncover the rich history of the area at South Shields Museum & Art Gallery, where the story of South Tyneside is told through sensational displays, hands on exhibits and stunning art.
The Tales of South Tyneside exhibit focuses on local people at home, play, work and war over the last century, together with the story of local author Catherine Cookson. Follow her rags to riches life and see some interesting memorabilia not to be seen elsewhere.
For all sorts of snakes, spiders and creepy crawlies you must visit the museum's Creature Corner, whilst Art Adventure is a gallery with a twist. The newest gallery is Changing Faces, which charts the history of South Tyneside with fantastic interactive displays. And make sure you check out the rolling programme of temporary exhibitions that are on show too.
The museum is also home to a great shop and the Tourist Information Centre, where you can pick up lovely memorabilia to remind you of your visit.
