The seafront parks of South Shields hold a special place in the hearts of local residents and visitors alike, and for over 100 years they have been a lovely place for walking, relaxing, playing and socialising.
In South Marine Park pedalos are available for hire and you can see the swans up close on the boating lake, before taking a ride on the miniature steam railway that circles the park. The two fantastic play areas are sure to be a big hit with the kids too, and if they have any energy left they can follow the art trail, passing the beautiful bandstand overlooking the park.
Next door, North Marine Park is a haven of peace and quiet offering great views and gentle pastimes such as bowls, petanque and pitch & putt. There are a number of walking trails throughout the park too, many of which lead to an elevated point from where you can see for miles along the coastline.
With their great facilities and beautiful setting it's not hard to see why our parks are often thought of as the crown jewels of the lovely South Shields seafront.
