Be inspired
Bede's World is the gateway to the Wearmouth-Jarrow monastic site, once home to the Venerable Bede and the UK's nomination for UNESCO World Heritage Site Status in 2011.
At this impressive attraction you'll find some fascinating displays and hands on activities that really bring the story of Bede and his fellow monks to life. The working farm with its' recreated timber Anglo-Saxon buildings and animals, including pigs, horses and sheep is sure to be a hit too, especially with the younger members of the family.
Next door to Bede's World is St Paul's Church and the remains of the medieval monastery. Amazingly the chancel in the church survives from the 7th century and would have stood during the time Bede worshiped there.
Overlooking the site is Jarrow Hall, a fine looking building that serves even more impressive home-made cakes and other home-made treats. Yum!
