South Shields - more than the traditional seaside town

See & doSouth Shields is more than a traditional seaside experience, visit us for the day, weekend or longer and take home some unforgettable memories.

From seaside fun, exciting attractions and exhilarating walks to incredible music concerts and festivals, South Tyneside offers a daily adventure for any visitor to the area.

South Shields seafront offers adults and families the chance to stroll down warm, sandy beaches, take a dip in the North Sea, build a sand castle, write your name in the sand, skip stones or blow those cobwebs away along one of our many breathtaking coastal walks. It's the chance for adults to relive their youth and introduce the fun of the outdoor seaside to children.

South Shields is celebrated for its sandy beaches, golden sand dunes and this summer visitors can now enjoy two of the area's newest attractions - the recently opened Haven Point splash pool at the heart of the seafront and Littlehaven Promenade, with its stunning coastal views and unique artwork directly on the seafront. So visitors can make a splash on one of our slides and take an ice-cream eating stroll along our prom.

Enjoy the thrills at the North East's only seaside funfair at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park with roller coasters, waltzer, quasar laser, dodgems, ship, surfing, water rides and much more!

For the more active visitors South Tyneside's Water Activities Centre (WAC) based on seafront next to the Littlehaven Beach can deliver a range of exciting water activities including sailing, open canoeing, kayaking, paddle surfing and windsurfing. A range of qualification courses are also provided through the centre and all staff are fully trained, qualified and teach water safety skills as part of any activity. So jump aboard and ride those waves!

South Shields has a spectacular events programme throughout the year. Every summer from June to August we offer a programme of free entertainment including a fantastic summer parade with hundreds of dancers and entertainers walking from the Town Hall to the coast, with a real carnival atmosphere. We hold a variety of family fun days, children's entertainment and live bands at one of our many seaside amphitheatres. On top of that thanks to our spectacular coast and award winning beaches you'll find free things to do this summer for adults and families of all ages.

South Shields boasts amphitheatres, parks, promenades- all of which host a variety of free entertainment including music and children's entertainment or ideal for those who simply want to catch a few winks or take a stroll in the sun.
